Our History

In 1989 San Francisco native and UC Berkeley Optometry School graduate, Dr. Joanne Yee, OD, opened up this optometry practice in the Rincon Center. She quickly became a well-respected and loved eye care provider for both nearby professionals and long time San Francisco residents. In 2012, Dr. Jennifer Kuo, OD, also a Bay Area native and UC Berkeley graduate, joined the practice as an associate. After working many years together Dr. Yee passed the torch on to Dr. Kuo in 2019 to continue the high bar of friendly and caring optometric practice that the office has become known for over the years. In 2022 our practice merged with Dr. Veda Szeto's also very well established practice on Market St. After over 20 years in practice each , the partnership between the two offices has allowed us to better serve our patient bases.

Our top priorities are to provide you with education about the health of your eyes, present you with solutions for the visual demands of your specific work and recreational activities, and to stay on top of the latest eye care and contact lens technologies to help you achieve visual comfort and success! As primary care providers of your eyes, we take your eye health and well being seriously and serve also as consultation and referral services for eye conditions that need specialist care.

Our Doctors

Dr. Jennifer Kuo, OD

Dr. Jennifer Kuo received her bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. After a few years in the tech industry she realized that her true passion was in health care and she went back to school to complete her doctoral degree in optometry at the University of California, Berkeley with ocular health rotations in VA Eye Clinics at Miami, FL and Honolulu, HI.

Dr, Kuo is a Bay Area native and has practiced at this location since 2012. She is driven by getting to know her patients as individuals, working with them to find solutions for the visual demands of their daily lives, and educating them about ocular health.

Dr. Veda Szeto, OD

Dr. Jennifer Kuo, OD

Dr. Veda Szeto graduated from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry with ocular health training from the VA Palo Alto, Omni Eye Clinic in Baltimore and Beale AFB. Her undergraduate degree is in psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has been practicing optometry since 1996 and established her well-respected and stylish optometric office on Market St. in 2003 before merging it with City Eyeworks Optometry in 2022.

Dr. Szeto was born in SF and raised in the Bay Area ( San Jose). She loves to travel with her husband and kids. She has great taste in restaurants and you may find her at some of the best places to eat in the Bay Area.

Dr. Joanne Yee, OD, FAAO -Retired

Dr. Joanne Yee is a San Francisco native and graduated from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. Along with her clinical expertise, Dr. Yee is a true academic at heart and enjoys staying current on the latest research and developments in the field of eye care even in retirement. She established this practice 30 years ago and has retired to travel the world and learn new languages.
